Shailene Woodley may be all about Divergent right now, but when she thinks back on her role in 2011’s The Descendants, she’s thankful for what she took away from the role: a lifelong friendship with her co-star, George Clooney. And according to Shailene, she would have no idea how to navigate the murky waters of Hollywood without him.
“He’s like my second dad. He’s got my back,” Shailene shares with Chicago’s Splash. “I’ve never met someone in the industry who’s more grateful, who pays it forward without talking about it in the press or speaking about it to anyone else. That to me was the best advice, just learning through his actions.”
And even though Shailene’s drawn a lot of worldly wisdom from her on-screen dad, the 22-year-old has plenty of inspiration to share herself. Besides the fact that Shailene’s a big advocate of getting in tune with nature and spending time with actual people instead of a smart phone, she’s also all about living a happy life.
And for Shailene, that starts with being positive — every single day.
“I wake up every morning and I sing, ‘Good morning, good morning!’ It’s a good way to start the day, you know?’” the The Spectacular Now actress says. “Life is about fun, laughter, and being the best person you could possibly be. It’s too short, it’s too fleeting, nothing matters. To take anything too seriously takes a toll.”
“My happiest friends have no wrinkles because they smile all the time,” she adds. “I really think laughter is the key to longevity. Obviously it’s important to eat healthy and have a healthy lifestyle, but laughter, kindness, happiness — those are the keys right there, man.”
