Divergent’s Third Book, Allegiant, to Be Split Into Two Movies (VIDEO)

Theo James fans — a.k.a. everyone with eyes and ears — should probably start working on calming their breathing and regulating their heart rates. Why? Because the super hot Brit (do yourself a favor and find clips of him speaking in his accent) is returning to the screen even more than anticipated, thanks to the Divergent series’ new announcement.

The official Divergent Twitter handle announced the final book, Allegiant, will be split into two films. “ALLEGIANT, PART 1: 3/18/16. ALLEGIANT, PART 2: 3/24/17. #VoteTris,” the tweet said, revealing the final two dates for the series.

In a statement (via Entertainment Weekly) about the move, Lionsgate co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger explained the decision. “Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in Allegiant, a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies.”

We don’t yet know where they will split the last, 544-page book, but we imagine they’ll figure it out. One possibility seems like they could split the book into two main points of view: Tris and Four since (minor spoiler alert), the book is told from alternating perspectives. Lionsgate has already played with the splitting of a final installation of popular series and had great success.

Say the co-chairs, “The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we’re tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise.”

We’re still on the fence about how we felt about Twilight’s last two movies, but we can imagine that if anyone can pull off the breaking up of a story to be told a year apart, it is Theo James and Shailene Woodley.

Insurgent, the next installation in the series, comes out on March 20, 2015.

What do you think about Divergent so far? Are you excited for the next movie, and for the move with the final two?
