Dolly Parton: Miley Cyrus’s Wild Image is a Calculated Move
If 9 to 5 and all of those sequin jumpsuits didn’t already make her a shoo-in for it, Dolly Parton may have just won herself the award for world’s coolest godmother.
In a new interview with the London Evening Standard, the country music legend defends her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, against accusations she’s having a meltdown.
“I’ve loved her through the years and watched her grow up, and I’ve seen how smart she is and how talented she is,” Dolly tells the paper.
The famed singer explains that many people in the music industry simply don’t give Miley due credit for her talent.
“I don’t think people really realize yet what a great singer and writer she really is,” she says.
It’s due, in part, to Miley’s artistic talent, that keeps Dolly maintaining a decidedly hands-off approach when it comes to her career.
“If she needs my opinion on something I will surely give it and there have been times we’ve talked. But I would never dream of calling her and saying, ‘Well why are you doing this?’ or, ‘You shouldn’t do this or that.’”
While Miley’s wild behavior has drawn criticism, Dolly says that it’s all a calculated ploy by a very smart girl who knows exactly what she’s doing. “I know that she has thought this all through,” she says. “We’ll let her go and do her own thing.”
