DOMA Struck Down By Supreme Court, Prop 8 Dismissed: The Voice Alums React!

The Voice has always prided itself in being a show where artists come from drastically different walks of life to share their talent with the world. The show has featured numerous members of the LGBT community, most recently Season 4 runner-up Michelle Chamuel. So it makes sense that alums from this hit reality competition show would have quite a bit to say today when the Supreme Court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional and dismissed Prop 8, making gay marriage legal in California.

DOMA did not recognize same-sex marriages in the case of benefits like insurance benefits for government employees, social security survivors' benefits, immigration, and the filing of joint tax returns.

Now that that law has been declared unconstitutional and same-sex marriage has been reinstated in California, members of The Voice family quickly took to Twitter to express their excitement.

Season 2 Team Adam Levine finalist, Tony Lucca, was one of the first to speak up when the news was announced on June 26.

Season 4 Team Shakira contestant Karina Iglesias also sent her support.

Former Season 2 Team Cee Lo artist Sarah Golden was extremely excited to hear the good news.
