It’s official! ITV has announced that Downton Abbey Season 4 will premiere on 9 p.m. Sunday, September 22. And the best part? They spread the news via an adorable invite direct from Earl of Grantham Robert Crawley and Lady Cora Crawley themselves. Consider us RSVP-ed, ITV!
While American fans of Downton Abbey have to wait until NEXT YEAR for the show to hit PBS, British audiences have only a couple months left on their DA countdown clocks. So when exactly does Downton return to television screens somewhere in the world?
All we know thus far is that Season 4 — or, excuse us, Series 4 — will begin airing in the U.K. during the month of September. Historically, the show has premiered in mid to late September (September 26, 2010, for Series 1; September 18, 2011, for Series 2; and September 16, 2012, for Series 3).
Seeing as that all-important first episode inches up a few days every season we’re hazarding a guess that Series 4 will premiere in the U.K. during the second or third week of September (aka long, long before it graces American televisions).
When the four installment was still months off for everyone, the New York Daily News reported that PBS was considering running Downton in tandem with the U.K. to avoid the risk of spoilers leaking during the multi-month lag. That would have been nice but don’t worry. Whether you’re a lucky TV-watching Brit or not, you’ve found the right place for all your Downton Abbey spoilers.
