We’re not going to lie. This just might be the best potential celebrity pairing we’ve heard about in a very long while. On September 1, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch — most famous for his role as the titular loveable sociopath in the BBC’s Sherlock — was spotted getting a drink with fellow Brit Laura Carmichael (aka Lady Edith from Downton Abbey) after a Lady Gaga concert in London.
No seriously: Sherlock Holmes and Lady Edith walked into a bar. It’s not the punchline of some joke. It actually happened.
So far, there’s no confirmation that these two are actually dating. Though, if they were, can we go on record as saying that if they did become a couple our minds would probably implode from acute awesomeness overload? (Yes, that’s an actual condition now. We just decided on it.)
Laura, who in real life looks almost nothing like her drab Downton character, was spotted laughing and smiling throughout the night. Benedict, meanwhile, entertained the other bar-goers by goofing around and playfully sticking little straws out of his eyes. Oh Benny. Such a tease.
Okay, so it’s not exactly a romantic one-on-one date, but it certainly sounds like quite the lively evening. Even if Benedict and Laura don’t ever strike up a romance, we love the idea that these two are friends. And hey, if they ever wanted to co-star in a movie together, we certainly would not complain!
