On Downton AbbeyRose MacClare (Lily James) just flits about from episode to episode. She doesn’t quite have the memorable sass of her cousin Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), nor the regrettable bad luck of Edith (Laura Carmichael). Instead, the beautiful Rose appears rather bored at Downton, always looking for a new way to have fun.

In the February 2 episode, Rose spices up life at Downton by making good on the birthday surprise she hinted at in the January 26 episode. We got a special sneak peek at what’s ahead when the episode aired in the United Kingdom last autumn.

“A band?!” Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) exclaims upon hearing Rose’s plan for Robert’s (Hugh Bonneville) bash.

“Shh. Nobody must know,” the mischievous blonde replies. “We’ll get the carpets rolled up and everything arranged during dinner so that when his Lordship walks out, there it is.”

Sounds so simple...for Rose, who will be eating dinner while the staff has to prepare for the band. Mrs. Hughes, seasoned housekeeper that she is, already foresees difficulties.

“So I have to find them food and beds. How many are there?” Mrs. Hughes says with a sigh.

“Six, I think.” Oh good! Just six in an already crowded household. Thanks, Rose!

All teasing aside, Rose’s surprise could mean interesting things for the February 2 episode particularly when it comes to the frontman on this jazz band, the dashing Jack Ross (Gary Carr). We met Jack back in the January 19 and he clearly left an impression on Rose. Could forbidden romance be on the agenda for the evening’s activities? (We can tell you if you really want to know but spoilers lie ahead.)
