Update (January 9, 2014):

Unfortunately, Downton Abbey didn’t win in either of its two nominated categories (Maggie Smith, you were robbed!) but hey, at least Season 4 is officially on in the U.S.

Original story (November 6, 2013):

American fans of Downton Abbey may still have two months until Season 4 premieres in the United States, but that doesn’t mean the show isn’t on our minds. The series, which wraps in the UK this Sunday, just snagged itself two nominations for the 2014 People’s Choice Awards.

First, Downton earned a spot for Favorite Cable TV Drama. The show is up against some huge US series including Pretty Little Liars and The Walking Dead. That said, we have a feeling Team Crawley can hold its own against A and an army of zombies.

Also representing Downton at the PCAs: the Dowager Countess herself! Maggie Smith got a nod for Favorite Cable TV Actress because obviously she’s the best. Maggie will compete for the title against fellow A-listers Angie Harmon, Claire Danes, Courteney Cox, and Lucy Hale (darn you PLL!). Although it’s unlikely the 78-year-old actress will make the long trip to the January 8, 2014, ceremony in Los Angeles, we’d still love to see the Dowager take home a prize.

What do you think? Does Downton Abbey have a fighting chance of bringing home a PCA? Sound off in the comments below and remember to vote over at www.peopleschoice.com.
