Move aside Stella! Tom Branson (Allen Leech) has got his groove back. The feisty Irishman, who stole our hearts (and Lady Sybil’s) with his zeal for life and passion for politics, was significantly dispirited during the last half of Season 3 and the majority of Season 4. Losing your soul mate will do that to you.

By the end of the fourth season, we thankfully started to see signs Tom might be back up to his ole fighting spirit. Thanks to the encouragement of fellow mourner/outsider to the Crawley family, Isobel (Penelope Wilton), Tom decided to head to a political meeting. There he just happened to meet an attractive young woman, Sarah Bunting (Daisy Lewis), who totally has a thing for the handsome widower.

Tom was slow to warm up to the clearly interested schoolmarm — after all, he was married to Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay), just the most vivacious lady to ever grace the halls of Downton. But by the next time Tom ran into Sarah in the village, he seemed a little more open to the idea of new love. He even took part in a little light political banter, just like he use to in his spitfire days as a chauffeur.

And it sounds as if that old fire might be back for good! Allen Leech recently told Metro that in future episodes “there are definitely signs that Branson is getting his old spark back.” We just hope this is the “make good life choices” kind of spark and not the “got drunk on whiskey, slept with the maid” kind of spark!

What do you think Allen means? Does Tom return to his politicking ways? Do he and Sarah begin a relationship? So many possibilities! Share your thoughts in the comments below.
