Better watch out, Maggie Smith. There’s another highly acclaimed actress gunning for a spot on Downton Abbey.
She’s a long-time fan of the hit UK series with a list of acting accolades nearly as long as Maggie’s. Who’s the lady hoping Julian Fellowes will pay her a call? Only the Hollywood legend Anjelica Huston.
The 62-year-old, who has more than 30 major awards to her name, would love to head overseas for a guest role on Downton, she told USA Today. In fact, it’s a role she’s been preparing for her whole life!
“I was raised in Ireland and England so I could pop into a part,” Anjelica says. She even has an idea of which character she could play. “Somebody like [famous Irish rebel and suffragette] the Countess Markievicz, who they mentioned last season. Maybe I could make a guest appearance,” she says, laughing.
Julian, say yes to this! Angelica would be an amazing addition to the already stellar cast of Downton. Plus, there’s already a tradition of bringing over all-star American actors to spice things up on set.
Take, for example, Shirley MacLaine as Lady Cora’s mother Martha Levinson or Paul Giamatti as Cora’s brother Harold, both of whom will star in the forthcoming Season 4 Christmas Special. Perhaps they could just happen to bring along another fun-loving American friend, or, you know, bump into an Irish rebel in transit to Downton.
What do you think? Would Anjelica make a good addition to the Downton cast? Share your opinions in the comments below.
