We’re just days away from the beginning of a very important month. February 2014 marks the start of filming for Downton Abbey Season 5 and you know what that means: Spoilers! Allen Leech, who plays loveable Irishman Tom Branson, recently chatted about what’s ahead.

So far, Allen says he’s received scripts for Episodes 1 and 2. Upon reading them he immediately called up his bud Rob James-Collier (Thomas Barrow). Although Downton’s two Toms don’t share much beside their first names, off camera Allen and Rob make for one of Britain’s best bromances. Too bad they kind of hate each other on the show.

While Allen doesn’t spill on any specifics from the scripts, he does say “very exciting stuff happens in Episode 1 and continues into Episode 2.” Even more interesting, he teases that he “found out something I didn’t know” during Episode 1 and was “deeply saddened” by the revelation. More depression at Downton? We’re not sure we can take it.

As for his character, Allen says he hopes to see the widower find “peace within himself” as he still seems “very torn about what he wants.” We saw as much during Season 4 when Tom debated whether or not to leave Downton completely behind and take himself and his young daughter to America. Thankfully, he ended up sticking around with Allen saying he hopes Tom ultimately chooses Downton as his permanenthome.

His new romance with village schoolmistress Sarah Bunting (Daisy Lewis) may go a long way toward the Irishman putting down roots. Allen was particularly tight-lipped about that storyline but if we learned anything about Sarah during Season 4, it’s that she doesn’t give up easily.

What do you make of Allen’s revelations? Worried about that first episode, or more concerned Tom will leave Downton forever? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
