Update (August 18, 2014):

That’s a wrap! Michelle Dockery has clued us in that Season 5 of Downton Abbey has officially come to a close. See her clever message over on her Instagram

Original story (February 24, 2014):

If you’re a Downton Abbey fan like we are, you’ve already got a countdown calendar going on when Season 5 premieres. It’s the sad plight of the American Downtonite, however, that the series airs in the U.K. months before it debuts on PBS in the States. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited about every last detail coming out of the United Kingdom about Season 5!

One of the latest crumbs comes to us courtesy of Allen Leech (Tom Branson). The handsome Irishman took to Twitter yesterday where he answered a number of fan questions. We learned about a new relationship between Tom and a lady of the Crawley household as well as the three sexy words Allen would use to describe co-star Rob James-Collier (Thomas Barrow).

Just as exciting was the nugget of information Allen let slip about Season 5’s filming schedule. Although we knew filming started this month, we haven’t been able to exactly pinpoint when cameras started rolling. We knew one new character was already on set, but where do these events happen in the course of the show? Well, wonder no longer! Allen says Downton just hit week three of filming.

Allen made the big reveal after one fan asked who the biggest jokester is on set. “Rob James Collier!,” he replied. “This year he is off the charts and we’re only in week 3 of filming my sides hurt.”

Seeing as Tom sent that response on February 23, that means Season 5 started filming at the very start of February. Of course, we don’t know what episode that exactly places us at but we’re guessing not too far along in the series. That makes Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) locking lips with a well-known handsome bloke all the more interesting. Could she have made her choice so soon?
