We Downton Abbey fans are a skittish lot ever since Season 3 and the triple whammy of Jessica Brown Findlay, Siobhan Finneran, and, lest we forget, Dan Stevens leaving the show for good. So you’ll understand the impromptu happy dance Michelle Dockery’s latest news inspired earlier today.
The 32-year-old actress, who plays key character Lady Mary, is currently making the rounds to promote her new film, Non-Stop, in which she plays a flight attendant to Liam Neeson’s badass something or other.
One of her publicity layovers was This Morning, a show that runs on Downton’s same U.K. channel, ITV. Perhaps it was that shared programming that made Michelle feel at ease because she actually revealed how long she plans to stick with Downton.
“I am sticking with the show for however long the producers want it to go,” she said. Cue the happy dance!
As for how long that might be, Michelle says they don’t know. We’ve heard tell it might be after the upcoming season, the fifth in the show’s history, but as the big boss himself, Julian Fellowes, tells it, he’s finding the era the series is currently in the midst of, the Roaring Twenties, to be “a much richer vein.” Still, an end is in sight with Julian saying he doesn’t foresee Downton getting “as far as World War Two.”
Whatever you think is best, Jules. We’re just happy Lady Mary will still be around!
