You’d think by this point our hearts would be hardened to actors leaving Downton Abbey and seeming to do just fine without the show. It’s not that we begrudge the stars any of their post-Downton success (you do you, Dan Stevens!) but after the stellar ratings Season 4 got, they have to be a touch regretful they left such a surefire hit, right? Wrong.

Jessica Brown Findlay’s currently doing the media rounds for her new role in gothic classic Jamaica Inn, which airs in the UK on Easter Monday, and so of course has been asked if she misses her Downton character Lady Sybil Crawley.

Jessica’s decision to leave the show back during Season 3 led to Sybil’s exit via death from childbirth. It was a horrific moment in the show’s history as all of Sybil’s loved ones, including husband Tom Branson (Allen Leech), crowded around her bedside as she succumbed to seizures caused by eclampsia.

But despite her character’s permanent departure, Jessica says she has “no regrets” about leaving the cast.

“I kind of had a gut feeling,” the 24-year-old actress tells Yahoo! TV. “I had come to the end of my contract and I was so hungry to do other things.”

Jessica says she actually had to pass on a job because of the third series so when her commitment to Downton drew to a close, “it felt right.” We wish you the best, Jess, but Lady Sybil, we miss you every episode.
