Julian Ovenden, you’ve got us seriously confused. We’ve spied some new photos that may be connected to Downton Abbey Season 5, currently filming over in the U.K., but if these perplexing images are tied to the set, we have some major questions about where the next installment of the show is headed.
The snaps in question come from Julian Ovenden, aka one of Lady Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) two most eligible suitors, Charles Blake. The Season 4 newbie just got himself a new Instagram and promptly filled it with photos of war-torn France.
“Ready for action,” he captions one. The 37-year-old looks spiffy in a military uniform that’s stirring up all kinds of memories of Matthew Crawley’s (Dan Stevens) days in the trenches of World War 1. But how is a return to France possible for Downton, currently set in the mid-1920s? Is another time jump on the horizon? Or perhaps we’re flashing back to Charles’s days in the service alongside other main contender for Mary’s heart, Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen)?
If these photos are tied to Downton, we’d put our money on the latter theory. Then again, it’s more likely that Julian’s just sharing photos from another project; he plays Captain Gabriel Jackson in upcoming World War 2-era film Allies, which might explain that “US” pinned to his lapel.
Still, the actor’s well-placed mention of Downton in this latest picture of a military vehicle has us scratching our heads...
What do you think? Obvious these photos are from Allies or is Julian trying to tell us something about Season 5?
