Know where the biggest Downton Abbey fans are? The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Those folks are the ones behind Emmy Award nominations and this year they showered Downton with love. The show got six nominations for its leading lords and ladies!

While the show is no stranger to Emmy love, it’s still a huge achievement for the Julian Fellowes creation, which will air its fifth season in the UK this fall and, it’s presumed, the following January here in the US. With that slew of nominations this morning came a few first-time nods for some of the series’ most beloved characters.

Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) got a shoutout for Outstanding Actress in a Drama, which was no surprise after her masterful Season 4 performance as the grieving widow who must pick life over death.

Veteran Emmy nominees Jim Carter (Mr. Carson) and Maggie Smith (the Dowager Countess) also received nods, Jim for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama and Maggie for the actress equivalent. Joining the Dowager in that category is the pick we’re personally most excited about: Joanne Froggatt! Joanne’s role as Anna Bates got serious attention this year with a controversial plotline that left her character battered and bruised after a visitor to the Abbey raped her. To see Joanne awarded for her work handling such difficult and sensitive material would be the cherry on the sundae for Season 4!

But the nominations don’t stop there. Paul Giamatti (Harold Levinson) also got a nom for his guest appearance as Lady Cora’s troublesome brother and the whole cast and crew got a spot in the highly competitive Outstanding Drama category. Who will take home trophies? Tune in to NBC on Monday, August 25, at 8 p.m. to find out!
