Uh-oh. Downton Abbey Season 3 has already aired overseas, but it premieres on January 6, 2013 on PBS here in the U.S. According to the U.K. tabloid the Sunday Express, a major character may not be returning for all of Season 4.
Zap2it quoted Sunday Express's "well-placed production source" on the Downton set, who said, "Dan Stevens isn't returning to the series. He will probably do the first episode of the fourth series, but that will be it."
That's a problem, since Dan Stevens plays Matthew Crawley. You know, the potential heir. The guy Lady Mary marries on Season 3. What could it mean for Mary — and Downton — if he leaves the show?
As Zap2it noted, Dan is currently starring in the Broadway play The Heiress, and it will end its run in February, right around the time Downton begins filming Season 4. Since this is an unconfirmed report, let's just cross our fingers that it's not true. Maybe he's just angling for a raise?
