Earl of Grantham Robert Crawley
As the patriarch of the Crawley clan, the Earl of Grantham, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) is dedicated to keeping Downton Abbey a thriving estate. Unfortunately, it’s not an easy job. After losing the estate’s heir presumptive during the very first episode (who knew the Titanic would sink?!), Robert spends the following seasons coaching Downton’s new heir, the beautiful Matthew (Dan Stevens). True, Robert makes some bad investments and questionable choices along the way but his loyalty to his family and their future never wavers.
Robert was introduced in Season 1, Episode 1: "April 1912."
