Downton Abbey

Joanne Froggatt

We should all be envious of how good Joanne Froggatt looks in black and white. Not everyone would be able to make a simple maid’s uniform look that good! Strangely enough, though, the English actress — who plays Anna Bates on Downton Abbey — was actually uncertain about pursuing an acting career until she was invited to audition for the mega-hit British soap Coronation Street. (Coincidentally, fellow Downton cast member Rob James-Collier [Thomas] also got his start on the series).

Since then, Joanne’s been busy making TV magic. In 2010, her work was recognized with a British Independent Film Awards award for “Best Newcomer” and, more recently, she received a 2012 Emmy nomination for her role as Anna. Next up for the lady’s maid? Becoming a leading lady alongside heartthrob James McAvoy in a feature film adaptation of black comedy “Filth”.
