Downton Abbey Season 3 Episode 1: March 1920
The arrival of Cora's mother, Martha Levinson, sets everyone on edge — most particularly, the Dowager Countess — as the family prepares for Matthew and Mary's wedding. Meanwhile, Lord Grantham learns his investment of Cora's fortune in the Grand Trunk Railway has failed, plummeting the estate into bankruptcy. Hope's on the horizon though. Matthew inherited a large sun from Lavinia's father but he's torn on whether or not to use the fortune of his former fiancée to save his new family's home. Downstairs, O'Brien's newphew Alfred joins the team, upsetting Thomas. Sybil and her husband, Tom Branson, return, further adding to the tension and pre-wedding jitters. Somehow, however, everything goes off without a hitch and Matthew and Marry finally say their "I dos."
