Bates is finally freed from prison, much to the relief of Anna and most of the people at Downton. Thomas makes a midnight visit to Jimmy's room, unaware that his sexual advances are not welcome. O'Brien has been playing a mean-spirited trick on him. Edith comes to London to meet with a magazine editor, and accepts his offer for a weekly column. Matthew continues to confront Lord Grantham about the estate's mismanagement. The family's long time agent, Jarvis, resigns and Violet suggests that Tom take over. Branson succeeds in getting his daughter, Sybil Branson, baptised at a Catholic Church, and the entirely Crawley family attends the ceremony.
