Drake Drops “Draft Day” and “Days in the East” — Which Drake Do You Prefer?
Drake recently released two new tracks on his OVO blog, and they couldn’t be more different. If you like your Drake with a little more attitude and a whole lot more wordplay (think: “Started From the Bottom”), then “Draft Day” is your new jam. But if you prefer your Drake a little more sensitive and on the emotional side (cue up “Hold On, We’re Going Home”) — Rihanna really put this guy through work, huh? — then “Days in the East” is the single you’ve been waiting for.
“Days in the East” is most likely yet another ode to Rihanna, who the Canadian rapper has been chasing since their brief romance in 2011. Rihanna and Drake have been spotted getting cozy (read: holding hands) in Europe recently, and despite Drake’s insistence that they’re just friends, clearly, he has RiRi on the brain. “He’s not holding you down, he’s holding you back right now,” croons on the track. Is that a diss to Rihanna’s on-again-off-again beau Chris Brown? If anyone has the real answers here, it's Erykah Badu. Apparently, she and Drizzy enjoy deep conversations about love… over tea.
Meanwhile, “Draft Day” is rapper Drake’s return to the pop culture milieu. Not only does it sample Lauryn Hill’s classic “Doo Wop (That Thing),” but it also references The Hunger Games. “On some Hunger Games shit, I would die for my district/ Jennifer Lawrence, you can really get it,” he raps on the track. Clearly, this Drake belongs in District 1.
