Drew Barrymore’s Biggest Beauty Blunder: “I Hated My Peppermint Patty Bangs!”

Drew Barrymore may be the woman behind her own beauty line, Flower Beauty, but she wasn’t always so savvy. In fact, there are a few moments in Drew’s past that she’d rather forget when it comes to hair and make-up.

“I’d do the blow dryer and the Aquanet at the same time on my bangs, and that wasn’t so attractive,” she revealed to People at the launch of Flower Beauty’s spring collection. “I looked like Peppermint Patty.”

But now that she’s a mother and taking beauty risks isn’t so appealing, she’s glad she got it out of her system while she did.

“I saw what I wore to concerts and red carpets, and I was like, ‘That sh—t is crazy,’ but I’m so glad I did it,” Drew said. “I’m such a mom now, but it makes me happy to know I had those moments in life. One thing I did love from the 90s is the brown-red lipsticks. I never did the frosted lips, because it never looked good on me. As crazy as I was, those Wet’n’Wild colors — I knew not to do that.”

Now, the products she can’t live without are her own Skincognito stick and her bronzing highlighters, although if she’s ever caught without what she needs in a pinch, she knows how to make do in any situation.

“I’ll go into a bodega and rub berries on my cheeks. And I’ll ask for a wine cork that they’ve thrown away and I’ll burn the end to make kohl for my eyes,” she said. “I can get very creative with how to make makeup on the go.”

We’re already jealous of Drew’s daughter, Olive — She gets to benefit from a mom who’s a full blown beauty guru in her teen years when she’s first trying to figure out what makeup looks best on her. Maybe she won’t have to deal with the awkward years of way too much eyeliner in middle school like the rest of us did?
