Normally, burning someone in effigy — i.e. incinerating a sculpted representation of the person — is an act of aggression, but Duck Dynasty's Uncle Si doesn't need to fear for his life even though a Georgia teenager torched a life-size replica of the reality star.
The Cherokee Tribune reports that a 16-year-old boy from Canton, Georgia, stole an Uncle Si scarecrow from Ball Ground Elementary School on either October 16 or 17 — one of a couple dozen scarecrows created by students and parents for a fundraising contest.
When it went missing, tipsters reported that they had seen it on the porch of a local house. When the police tried to retrieve it, the teen relocated it and burned it.
"It was nothing but ashes," police chief Byron Reeves told the Tribune. "It was completely gone."
After police found him on October 18, the boy confessed to the crime and was released to his parents.
"The young man expressed remorse — he is sorry for what he did," city manager Eric Wilmarth told the newspaper. "It's just one of those things you can't back up and undo."
The parents who spent 40 hours constructed the Si doppelganger say that they forgive the teen and that they'll make a new one.
We just wonder if the real-life Uncle Si felt a little toasty Friday night!
