So, in that light, you could consider it unlikely that Kelly Monaco andVal Chmerkovskiy will go home tonight on the Week 6 Results Show. Fans usually rally to save the bottom team and Team Vally is already filled with passionate fans.
However, seen another way, the gap between top and bottom on Week 6 is pretty darn wide, thanks to combining two weeks of dances. Kelly and Val were already on the bottom on Week 5, but now they have a score of 78.5 out of 90 — a full 10 points below Sabrina Bryan andLouis van Amstel with 88.5 points. The next highest up the ladder from Kelly and Val are Kirstie Alley andMaksim Chmerkovskiy, with 82 points. As Kelly noted to On the Red Carpet, she and Val are the only ones scoring in the 70s while everyone else is in the 80s. "It's quite cool here, a little overcast, slight chance of showers," she joked.
Plus, during the last elimination, the couples in the bottom two were also the couples who got the lowest scores. That was a first for this season, but if it gets repeated, we could see Kirstie back in the bottom two, this time with Kelly.
But let’s say Team Vally isn’t eliminated. Who could be in danger? Kirstie and Mas have been on the bottom before and been safe. This week they got two extra points by winning the country team dance, but they’re still only second from the bottom. Could they be in danger? Absolutely. The judges see Kirstie’s improvement, but she’s still not quite on the same level, technique-wise, as Sabrina and the others. But we’re guessing Kirstie and Maks will see Week 7. What about Emmitt Smith? He and Cheryl Burke got a score of 82.5, just half a point above Kirstie and Maks. He has yet to be in the bottom two this season, but will the Season 3 champ get there tonight? Athletes tend to do well on DWTS, and NFL stars have particularly powerful fan bases (just ask Hines Ward and Donald Driver), so we’re guessing he’ll be safe.
We’re also worried about our French friend Gilles Marini, whose creepy/sexy black Cha-Cha-Cha attire launched Week 6. The judges love him, but he ended up dangerously close to the middle of the pack with that score of 84. It’s possible fans wouldn’t think he’d be in danger, perhaps focusing more attention on the lower-scoring dancers — or dancers who were criticized by the judges. The judges didn’t have any real criticism for Gilles other than a little note about his “T-Rex hands,” whereas fans have already reacted in anger against the latest disses from Len Goodman to Shawn Johnson andDerek Hough. That’s the kind of thing that puts a couple on the public radar and can help them. The last thing you want to be is off the radar and it’s possible Gilles is just too far off the radar this week.
We’ll see! There’s really no one left that we want to go home, so whatever happens will be a disappointment. What’s your prediction for tonight?
