DWTS Season 18: Sharna Was Supposed to Dance With Bruce Jenner? Hear All the “Inside Scoop”!

Have you ever wondered how The Powers That Be pair up the celebs and pros each season on Dancing With the Stars? It has to be an interesting process.

Season 18 has now come and gone, but Kristyn Burtt of AfterBuzz TV just shared a very brief — but very juicy — bit of behind-the-scenes intel on the spring season that could've been. "Want some inside scoop on Season 18 of #DWTS?" she tweeted on June 17. "This is REALLY interesting. WOW!"

She linked to an Instagram video, with this super-fast scoop:

Whew! All that information jam-packed into a few seconds makes our heads spin.

First impression: If true, Karina Smirnoff got the short end of that stick. Sean Avery was not a good fit for DWTS. Good taste on his part to pick Karina, but why did he get to pick anyone? Karina and James Maslow would've been a sexy match — and maybe he and Peta Murgatroyd could've flirted from afar, since they already knew each other by the time the season started. It was semi-awkward for them to dance after a dinner date, but they did work that showmance angle right up to the end.

Peta was supposed to get Charlie White, though? Well, she did get him on Switch Up Week! The big winner of this scoop is Sharna Burgess. If she really did originally have Bruce Jenner, then got ice dancing champion Charlie, that was a major dancing upgrade. Bruce would've had Kris Jenner and the Kardashians behind him, but that might not help. It did help runner-up Rob Kardashian on Season 13, but Kim Kardashian's Season 7 experience was short-lived (and underwhelming while it lasted).

If Karina returns for Season 19, she should demand a better deal. If celebs can ask for her, she should be able to ask for the male equivalent of a Meryl Davis (which is kind of a Charlie White, but...)

What do you think of this Season 18 scoop? It’s pretty fascinating to think of what might’ve happened, but you could reshuffle the deck of stars and pros every season and the end result would probably change. So much depends on those pairings.

DWTS Season 19 premieres this fall on ABC.
