The Voice Season 5: Ed Sheeran to Mentor Team Christina Aguilera

He may sing about “The A Team,” but come fall British heartthrob Ed Sheeran will be working for Team Xtina. The “Lego House” singer will be the mentor for Team Christina Aguilera on The Voice Season 5, which premieres on Monday, Sept. 23.

The pairing seems a bit unusual considering Ed’s known for his acoustic vibe, as opposed to Christina’s infamous belts, but considering her Season 3 advisor was Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, it’s clear she prefers the eccentric picks.

Mentors come into play during the battle round stage of the competition when the coaches pick two contestants to go against one another and duet to the death on the same song.

The Voice is known for its A-List mentors. In the past superstars like Mary J. Blige, Alanis Morissette, and Kelly Clarkson have lent their expertise to the rising hopefuls.

When the hit singing competition returns this fall, so will the four original coaches.
