Dancing With the Stars 2013 Elimination: Keyshawn Johnson Eliminated in Week 2

The first casualty of Dancing With the Stars Season 17 was revealed on Monday (September 23), and while it wasn't a total shock, it's still hard to say goodbye.

It's never easy to be the first to go home, but former football player Keyshawn Johnson took his early exit well — or, as well as he could express in the 30 seconds host Tom Bergeron gave him to bid adieu to the competition. Of course, this means that fan favorite pro, Sharna Burgess, is also out of the competition in Week 2.

Keyshawn failed to impress the judges — and the viewers at home — with his sloppy and uninspired Cha-Cha in Week 1. Though their height difference caused a few hiccups, they mastered a few kicks and flips, but the judges weren't as mesmerized by his footwork.

Bruno noted that it was like “having the Empire State try to be the Rockette,” and that the “issue is timing.” Len thought the attitude was terrific, but urged him to work on his technique and refine it. They received 17 points, with 6s from Bruno and Carrie Ann and a 5 from Len. Their Week 2 Rumba was a bit better, but Keyshawn still failed to find his rhythm. As much as we'll miss Sharna in the ballroom, this DWTS couple unfortunately didn't have the chemistry to survive another week in the competition.

As for happier news, here are the celebs and pros who were safe from elimination this week (in the order they were called):

Corbin Bleu & Karina Smirnoff

Lea Remini & Tony Dovolani

Bill Nye & Tyne Stecklein

Christina Milian & Mark Ballas

Amber Riley & Derek Hough

Valerie Harper & Tristan MacManus

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi & Sasha Farber

Jack Osbourne & Cheryl Burke

Brant Daugherty & Peta Murgatroyd

BOTTOM THREE: Elizabeth Berkley & Val Chmerkovskiy

BOTTOM TWO: Bill Engvall & Emma Slater

What do you think, DWTS fans? Did the right person go home tonight? And did you like the new elimination format? Sound off in the comments!
