Everyone in the ballroom looked stunned — with Carrie Ann Inaba clearly seen saying, “That’s not right” to her fellow judges — and tears falling from fellow contestants and pros. Considering that they have topped the Leaderboard all season and had a perfect score for their trio tonight, it was completely unexpected, but as we’ve seen with the new format, it’s all about the fan vote — it’s why Bill has been able to stick around so long, in spite of low scores.
“I’m sad. Definitely there were some more things we wanted to do, but I am honestly beyond grateful for this,” Elizabeth told Brooke Burke and Tom Bergeron, looking shocked still, but she continued with heartfelt thank-yous. “This is one of the biggest gifts and blessings in my life. I want to thank everyone, especially Val. I have learned so much. I’ve learned so much — obviously dance, but as a person and growth as a human being from our partnership, it’s something I will hold so dear to me forever.”
“She’s done incredible. Celebrate yourself, be proud of yourself, believe in yourself,” Val said, encouraging Elizabeth before they left the ballroom. We’ll miss you, Team Chmerkley!
