Every week there’s a new (figurative) death in the Dancing With the Stars Season 17 family — and this week a couple seemed to go well before their time.
The DWTS cast took to Twitter after the shocking elimination of Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy at the end of Week 9.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba recently wrote about the right couple always going home, because of the DWTS combo of judges’ scores and viewer votes. But that doesn’t mean she was happy about this week’s outcome. “Fun night! Ridiculous ending. No spoiler but I'm a bit perturbed…” she tweeted. “I'm still in shock. @ElizBerkley @iamValC can't imagine how you feel! You left on a high note. And u should be proud of what u accomplished.”
Bill Engvall and Emma Slater were way at the bottom of the judges Leaderboard, with a combined score of 42 — as opposed to Elizabeth and Val’s 56. Bill tweeted after the show, “So shocked and sorry to see Elizabeth get eliminated but gotta give credit to my fans who are the best in the world. Thanks for your votes.”
Emma tweeted, “Adore u @ElizBerkley u are a true star & u can hop into a wonderful dance career if you wanted to with all ur new expert training :) xx.”
Co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet isn’t normally too opinionated, but she chimed in with praise for Val: “@iamValC I'm so so sad to see you go. You're incredible & deserve a mirror ball.”
New pro Tyne Stecklein knows what it’s like to leave too soon, and she tweeted, “Really sad to see @ElizBerkley and @iamValC go home tonight :(... Loved their dances! Will miss you guys in the competition!”
Brant Daugherty had his own shocking elimination just last week and he shared sympathy and support with Elizabeth: “@ElizBerkley so sorry to see you go tonight. You're an incredible performer and I'm so happy you were able to show it to the world.”
Sasha Farber left with Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi in their own surprise elimination two weeks ago, and he tweeted praise for this week’s couple: “@iamValC You killed it this season dude! Well done … @ElizBerkley you are a shining star and such an amazing dancer.”
For their own part, Elizabeth and Val did interviews talking about their surprise to be leaving, but gratitude for the experience. They also tweeted after the show, with Val writing, “Most importantly standing ovation to the the most beautiful girl in the room. The stunning @ElizBerkley. Pure heart with a smoking body.” Aww!
As Elizabeth put it: "Dancing w/@iamValC = MAGIC...”
We’ll miss them! Are you still shocked by their elimination? Sound off below, and catch DWTS on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
