Ellen’s impromptu pizza party was one of the highlights of this year’s Oscars — even if we didn’t get to share a slice with the celebs. And luckier than the people who got to eat the pizzas? Edgar, the guy who delivered them. We’ve never wished we were the pizza guy so much until now.
Not only did Edgar collect a $1,000 tip for his troubles — $600 from the stars in the audience, topped off by a generous $400 contribution from Ellen herself — but he also appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday to talk about the experience. We’d say he made out like a bandit!
“They told me I’m just gonna deliver for writers,” Edgar, who, with his brother, owns the location of Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria that took the famous order, said. “And then, when I was there, they told me, ‘Just wait here,’ and then you came out.”
And then Edgar followed Ellen out to the stage, and had no idea he was about to be in front of the Oscar’s audience until it was happening.
For Edgar, it was less about the actual Oscars, and more about Julia Roberts. He’s a huge fan, so he was pretty excited he got to bring her pizza.
“She was my woman in dreams,” Edgar said. “I was always watching her movies back in Moscow. So it was something crazy to me to deliver [her pizza].”
