This girl is on fire! No, not Katniss Everdeen... or Alicia Keys. We’re talking about Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, who has just picked up her first-ever Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones Season 3. How does the young actress feel about the nomination?
Emilia was so honored by the nomination, she responded to the news in the fictional GoT language of Dothraki, saying, “Yer chomoe anhaan. Jin ha Khalaan, shekh ma shieraki anni,” which means, “You do honor to me. This is for the Khal, my sun and stars.” Now, is it just us, or is that the greatest Emmy nomination acceptance quote of all time?
Playfulness aside, Emilia was quite stunned when she heard the news of her nomination. She told the New York Times, “I’m shocked and surprised that I’m even vaguely near the same category as Peter Dinklage [Tyrion Lannister] and Diana Rigg [Olenna Tyrell].” Peter Dinklage and Diana Rigg also picked up nominations for their respective roles on GoT, representing two of the show’s 16 total nominations.
As far as why she was nominated, Emilia joked to the Los Angeles Times, "I think probably my dragons did it. Maybe they were scared." More seriously, she added, "I’m lucky enough to get to play a seriously strong woman who is going from strength to strength, and if you’re a woman who is empowered, maybe you like that." Seriously strong — that just about sums up Dany!
Emilia is also looking forward to celebrating at the Emmy ceremony with the rest of the GoT team, saying, “I’m hoping we all get to hang out together and shout ‘Woo-hoo!’ when they announce our nomination.” So do we, Emilia, and we hope you’ll be shouting ‘woo-hoo’ in Dothraki when you win!
