The cast and crew of The Walking Dead is widely regarded as being one of the most open, accepting “families” out there, but it can still be daunting and difficult to come into a group of people after relationships have already formed.
Emily Kinney joined the AMC hit as Beth Greene back at the start of Season 2, but it wasn’t until nearly the end of her first season on the show that Ems felt she really belonged. The 28-year-old actress-singer was recently interviewed by Refinery29, who asked her if she’s ever had an “I made it” moment. The instance Emily picked doesn’t speak to her personal fame, but it does reaffirm just how great and talented this cast is.
“In Season 2, we had this big group scene when Sophia comes out of the barn — that was one of the first times I got to shoot with everybody in the cast. It was just a really unifying day and really special moment,” Emily recalls. “I remember Andrew Lincoln pumping everyone up, because it was such a long day. Before, it felt a little like I came in, shot my scenes, and left. But, that was a really special moment. We all got to know each other really well, and I felt like I really belonged in the cast.”
Aww, talk about a sweet story! And now we can’t imagine the cast without Emily. Her character Beth may have been kidnapped before Season 4 formally ended, but we know she’ll be back in some form or another come Season 5.
We’re especially delighted by that because Emily is one of those actresses who truly appreciates all the opportunities TWD has given her. She explains, “This is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been a part of. Everywhere you go, people watch it. A lot of people tell me they don’t watch TV, but they watch The Walking Dead. It’s incredible.”
The cast is expected to arrive in Georgia next month to start work on Season 5, and Emily teased that she’s got a few other tricks up her sleeve as well. “I have a couple other things in the works, but you'll just have to stay tuned to find out more about those!," she concluded.
