Much has been made about Cory Monteith’s (Finn) tribute at the 2013 Emmy Awards. While some praised the show for honoring a beloved young actor gone too soon, others said that the Emmys should spend more time remembering late actors who had actually won an Emmy Award.
But when all is said and done, the Emmys have stood by their decision to honor Cory, and his Glee co-star Jane Lynch (Sue) gave a moving tribute to the late actor during the Emmys’ Sunday, September 22, broadcast.
The Canadian actor played beloved football jock Finn Hudson, a born leader who discovered a passion for singing and the arts that both opened his mind and helped combat bullying and stereotypes in his midwestern town.
“From the first time you saw Cory, he had a star quality and a genuine sweetness that made it impossible not to fall in love with him,” Jane said. She called her co-star a “beautiful soul,” but recognized that his life ended in a way no one ever wanted.
“He was not perfect, as many of us here tonight can relate to,” she said. But instead of dwelling on his battle with addiction, Jane wanted to honor the kind and generous person that Cory was. “To a generation that loved Cory so, please know, this gifted and wonderful man was worthy of all of that love,” she said.
