Town in England Renamed King’s Landing (Really)

What better way to fly your house sigil high than to rename your whole town King’s Landing? That’s the thinking over in a little English village currently known as Kings Langley (booooring).

The same week Game of Thrones Season 3 releases on DVD next month, the Hertfordshire village is swapping out its name for the well-known capital created by George R. R. Martin.

Georgie Porgie, however, isn’t the mastermind behind this latest scheme. Local newspaper The Watford Observer credits an executive producer of the HBO hit as the one who suggested the village think about rebranding.

The unidentified exec heard Kings Langley read out as a stop while waiting for a train in the area, reports The Observer, and then decided to contact the Dacorum Borough Council about a name change. Talk about cross-promotion!

Susan Lea of the Borough Council says she hopes local establishments will get into the GoT spirit when the change happens the week of February 17. We suggest tournaments galore, knights in white armor, and a bowl o' brown cooking on every street corner. Just keep away from the wildfire.

What would you rename your hometown in honor of Game of Thrones? Got a soft spot for Braavos or going big by claiming Winterfell? Add your suggestions to the comments below.
