Bachelorette Season 10 Episode 2 Brings Lowest Series Ratings EVER!

Uh-oh, Andi Dorfman just won a prize, and it’s the proverbial stinky bag on the front doorstep of door prizes (you know that proverb, right?). The Season 10 Bachelorette pulled in the lowest ratings ever for an episode of the ABC show with Monday night’s Memorial Day Episode 2. Yikes, guess everyone picked daisy chain-making in the park over roses and the couch last night, eh?

TVbytheNumbers has the breakdown for the night’s numbers, and let’s just say that (spoiler alert) they were bleak. Like, as bleak as Craig Muhlbauer’s songwriting abilities. Only 5.74 million people (a 20 percent drop from last week) tuned in to watch Eric Hill and Andi as the all-time most attractive couple on their 1-on-1 date. The show garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 key demographic, and a 4 ratings share.

How is it possible that this week was down 30 percent after the Season 10 premiere’s tie for all-time low? We have no idea. What were you people doing other than watching Andi make out with Chris Soules and Josh Murray? Nothing worthwhile, as far as we’re concerned.

What we are concerned about, though, is that ABC doesn’t seem to realize why their show is dropping in ratings. Hey guys: newsflash, stop showing The Bachelorette on holidays, k? We won’t even mention that they had zero competition as far as super popular shows go. The Voice ended last week, and 2 Broke Girls had a rerun (which still, hilariously, had the same ratings share in the demo). Only Master Chef took them on with a new program, and 24: Live Another Day at 9 p.m. matched The Bachelorette almost to a T.

Adding to the craziness of their strategy (or lack thereof), ABC also announced that they would show the next episode of Andi’s love quest this Sunday, setting up a two-night “special”! Uh, why? We’re not positive, but we do know that ABC’s last attempts to take on Sunday have had less than stellar results, as their “Juan-uary” month of ruin all pulled in dismal returns.

We can only imagine they’d choose to condense the season so that they can fit in more episodes of Bachelor in Paradise before fall premieres, but it seems like they’re cutting off their nose to spite their face if that’s their strategy. Otherwise, perhaps they'll skip a week later on, which they've done before, or air a rerun. We hope it's the latter, since we've already decorated our Sean Lowe's Abs wall calendar with roses on all the air dates. It'd be a shame to have to muss it up too much, and that decoupage isn't going to un-sparkle itself.

Whatever the reasoning behind airing episodes of their darling at strange times — the premiere at 9:30 p.m., the second episode on a holiday, the third on a Sunday — they’re definitely taking more chances on success than Andi is on her “journey.”
