Looks like Grey's Anatomy alum Eric Dane's (Mark Sloan) new job might keep him gainfully employed for a while.
Around 5.3 million viewers watched the June 22 series premiere of his TNT show, The Last Ship, making it the biggest launch of a cable show this year, as the network touts in a press release.
That audience spikes to 7.4 million when you take into account the viewers who saw the replay later that same night.
The new series stars the 41-year-old actor as Captain Tom Chandler, who commands a U.S. Navy battleship which becomes humanity's last hope when a mysterious virus wipes out half of the world's population.
Funnily enough, the show The Last Ship ousted as biggest cable launch of 2014 is another TNT series featuring another Shondaland alum — Murder in the First, starring Private Practice's Taye Diggs, which premiered on June 9 to 3.8 million watchers.
To make the news even better, the show logged more than 1.1 million Twitter impressions, according to Nielsen.
Despite all this, however, The Last Ship was narrowly beaten by a TNT returning champ, Rizzoli & Isles, which debuted Season 5 on June 17 to 5.8 million viewers. Girl power!
In any case, congrats to Eric! We truly don't begrudge his new show's success, considering there's no way he could return to Grey's now.
