Erin Andrews to Replace Brooke Burke As Dancing With the Stars Season 18 Co-Host (VIDEO)

UPDATE 2: ABC confirmed the Erin co-host news in a press release issued the morning of Monday, February 24.

UPDATE 1: The day after The Big Lead's scoop, sources confirmed the Erin replacement news to People, Us Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter and others, although ABC has yet to make it official. It sounds like this is the real deal.

Original story:

Another county heard from! Brooke Burke-Charvet just lost her job as co-host of Dancing With the Stars, and we initially thought it was a downsizing move. They cut the Results Show, viewer numbers are down, and we don’t even have a Celebriquarium anymore, so maybe they figured DWTS doesn't really need two hosts.

Well, maybe they want two anyway! According to The Big Lead, Brooke's job won’t stay vacant for long — sports reporter and DWTS Season 10 finalist Erin Andrews, 35, is reportedly going to be the new co-host. Two sources gave the site that scoop, and they added that ABC was expected to make the announcement this Monday, February 24. They say Erin will continue her work with Fox Sports and just co-host DWTS during the week, similar to Michael Strahan’s deal with Fox Sports and Live With Kelly and Michael.

We love Erin — and maybe getting her on board as co-host would be more incentive for her former pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy to return as a recurring guest judge — but we won’t believe this one until ABC makes an announcement. It is possible, though, since it’s not like DWTS has never changed co-hosts before: Lisa Canning was Tom Bergeron’s first co-host, then she was replaced by Samantha Harris. Brooke, who won DWTS Season 7, replaced Samantha as co-host in Season 10.

Tom ... and maybe Erin, or maybe just himself … will reveal the new DWTS Season 18 cast Tuesday, March 4 on Good Morning America. The spring 2014 season premieres Monday, March 17 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

It would be great to have Erin back in the ballroom, but do you think DWTS really needs two hosts? Most shows get by with just one. If they do add Erin to the mix, hopefully they give her more to do than just put a microphone in front of whoever is leaving to ask how they feel.

What do you think about this rumor? Good idea? It’s one thing if the show is downsizing to save money, it’s a different story if you’re being replaced...but that’s what they ended up doing with Harold Wheeler’s band, so maybe the changes really are less about cutting costs and more about angling for a new audience. The show is getting a full reboot!
