Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec Named “Queen of CW”
The Los Angeles Times sure is impressed with The Vampire Diaries’ showrunner Julie Plec (and so are we). Julie is a television-creating powerhouse, and was named “queen of CW” in a piece the news outlet featured yesterday. What has the paper (and world) so impressed? As if you have to ask…
With the 2013 fall television season underway, Julie has not one, but three television shows gracing the CW network schedule. Fan favorite TVD is going into its fifth season (and we think it’s shaping up to be one of the best yet); TVD’sspin-off, The Originals, has sunk its fangs into the Tuesday night schedule with Julie as an executive producer; and sci-fi remake The Tomorrow People also credits Julie with the EP role. When does this woman sleep?! (We doubt she does. Though she does, according to the article, have an apartment in the same building as Nina Dobrev, aka Elena. Adorable.)
All three of Julie’s shows have enjoyed strong ratings. TVD continues to be one of The CW’s highest rate dramas, while freshman series The Originals and The Tomorrow People have garnered 2.2 million and 2.3 million viewers, respectively, in showings. And that’s without taking into account all of the Twitter buzz Julie’s shows create. TVD came in sixth in the Nielsen Twitter TV ratings for the Season 5 premiere. Basically, Julie may be taking over not just the CW, but the entire internet!
We don’t care how far Julie’s power reaches, as long as she keeps making awesome genre shows for us to gleefully gobble up. And it sounds like she will. She told the L.A. Times, "The supernatural world, the sci-fi world — they give you scenarios that can truly be life or death. And that's why these shows work especially well with young people — when you're a teenager everything feels so epic. I like to tell those stories." We like for you to tell those stories, too, Julie.
What do you think of Julie’s current reign of the CW? Do you watch all of her shows? Sound off in the comments below!
