Jennifer Lawrence accepted her 2013 Academy Award for Best Actress — granted in recognition of her performance in Silver Linings Playbook — in the most Jennifer Lawrence way possible: by falling down as she climbed the stairs up to the podium.
J.Law covered her face in shame, America gasped, and dashing men like Bradley Cooper and Hugh Jackman leapt to their feet to help her.
At the time, she handled the trip with humor, downplaying the audience's standing ovation: "You guys are just standing up because I fell, and it's so embarrassing."
Now, however, she's recounting the stumble seen around the world in W magazine.
"I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear
if my name was called, and I kept thinking, Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk," she remembers. "I thought, Why is 'cakewalk' stuck in my head? And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, 'Kick, walk, kick, walk.' You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that's why I fell."
Normally we'd say a Hollywood actress as on top of her game like Jen could "have her cake and eat it, too," but for her wellbeing, maybe we should remove the cake prospect.
