Tomorrow night's episode of Extreme Weight Loss — airing on July 1 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC — may be the most emotional yet, as you can see from the sneak peek above.
The subject of the two-hour installment, Melissa, is a woman still grappling with the loss of her husband, Mike, five years ago. Mike returned from his tour of duty in Afghanistan a changed man and was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Melissa and Mike tried to resume their normal life, but Mike became more and more withdrawn, before finally committing suicide at his workplace.
As she grieved for her partner, Melissa found comfort in food, reaching 301 pounds before contacting Heidi for help, not wanting to make her children orphans.
In fact, this is the first transformation that Heidi oversees singlehandedly, having joined her husband, Chris, on this show this season.
And Heidi knows that before Melisa can make a physical transformation, she has to deal with the underlying emotions, so she has Melissa look through MIke's foot locker, where she had hidden Mike's possessions.
"Melissa has a long way to go this year, but opening up the box of Mike's stuff was one of the most important first steps she could have taken," Heidi explains.
But that's just the first in many difficult steps, especially as ABC's press release describes Heidi has more of a "bulldog" trainer compared to her affable husband.
Tune into Extreme Weight Loss on July 1 at 8 p.m ET on ABC to see how Melissa fares!
