Facebook Finally Changes Policy on Posting Breastfeeding Photos
In case you haven’t noticed, posting breastfeeding photos on Facebook is becoming a norm nowadays. Another trend is that most of those pics get banned by the social sharing site. But thanks to Facebook’s new publishing policy, those photos just got the greenlight. Moms, rejoice!
While the policy thus far has been a bit haphazard, Facebook recently made an official statement regarding breastfeeding photos, stated that those snapshots are now “compliant” with their policies:
“Does Facebook allow photos of mothers breastfeeding?
Yes. We agree that breastfeeding is natural and beautiful and we're glad to know that it's important for mothers to share their experiences with others on Facebook. The vast majority of these photos are compliant with our policies.”
It goes on to clarify, “Please note that the photos we review are almost exclusively brought to our attention by other Facebook members who complain about them being shared on Facebook.”
If you ask us, the second part of the statement seems a little “pass-the-buck,” but at least they have a policy now, which is an improvement! So why is this necessary? The Huffington Postreports that as as little as two weeks ago, if a mom shared a breastfeeding photo with an exposed nipple, it would have been banned for violating Facebook’s obscenity and nudity rules.
Now it sounds like if you follow the basic tenets of posting photos, you’re free to share those snaps, moms.
Should Facebook ban breastfeeding photos, even if it offends some users?
