NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is a renaissance man. How do we know? Because he’s a Bachelorette superfan, which makes him the most in the know newsman around — it is the show all the cool kids are watching, after all. He revealed his secret passion for the reality dating show during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and managed to get a dig in at The Bachelor’s Juan Pablo Galavis in the process.
"Juan Pablo kind of divided us as viewers,” the anchor deadpanned. “Juan Pablo was a troubled man." Ouch. This just in, Brian Williams does not think ees OK.
Brian’s clearly up to date on the latest doings on Andi Dorfman’s season of The Bachelorette as well, commenting on the Hometown Dates of Chris Soules and Nick Viall with, “Opportunities as a homemaker in Iowa, hello red flag. If my mom doesn't like you it's a no go, red flag numero dos."
The newsman is a seasoned pro — and clearly a fan of the show — so Seth asked him if he’d ever consider giving up his seat behind the news desk for a chance to host the reality series. So would Brian consider it?
“There are certain things I couldn’t do with a straight face. I couldn’t make that cursory [entrance] into the room and say ‘and now, the final rose.’” He also questioned whether he could keep a straight face watching the lead hold the rose during the ceremonies, quipping “why do they have to hold them like they’re playing darts in a bar in Scotland? I’ve never understood the rose hold. Why two hands? It’s a rose, just fling it around, you know? Have fun with it. Explore the space.”
While we would never want to see host Chris Harrison replaced, we can’t help but think that if he ever got tired of his counseling duties, Brian would make a great funnyman addition to Bachelor Nation.
