Fans Win Game of Thrones Themed Wedding — Fortunately, It’s Not Red!

Game of Thrones has become notorious for its event-filled weddings. There was the Dothraki wedding between Dany and Drogo where we learned that a wedding without at least three deaths is a dull affair. There was the “Purple Wedding” of King Joffrey and Margaery, which saw Joff being the ultimate tool before succombing to poison and dying a gruesome death. And of course, there was the infamous Red Wedding, where the Starks and their allies were memorably slaughtered in what is already being called one of television’s most tragic events ever. So you wouldn't think a Game of Thrones themed wedding would be in high demand, but fans will be fans.

Blinkbox, a UK streaming service, held a contest where fans could win an elaborate GoT-style wedding, and one English couple went all out for the affair. Darren Prew and Kerry Ford were wed at Eastnor Castle, and were dressed as Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, respectively. Kerry rode a white steed to the ceremony, while Darren had two “direwolves” on leashes. The rest of the wedding party were also transformed by costume and makeup specialists on site, with the best man attending as a White Walker, the maid of honor sporting Ygritte’s kissed by fire look, the mother of the groom ironically attending the wedding as Cat Stark, the mother of the bride going as Melisandre. Not to be left out, the father of the bride showing up as Hodor.

Kerry is a professional cake maker, and she designed the five tier cake itself, which features the sigils of the Great Houses, a dragon egg, Joffrey’s crown (made of chocolate, of course), and is topped with the Iron Throne.

The event looked to be pretty spectacular, and thankfully, no deaths were reported! You can take a behind the scenes look at the nuptials right here.
