The Fast and the Furious: Who Almost Landed the Role of Brian O’Connor Before Paul Walker Was Cast?
It’s hard to imagine anyone other than the late Paul Walker play Brian O’Connor in the Fast and Furious franchise, but it nearly happened! Do you know which famous musician was considered for the part of Brian O’Connor before Paul Walker was cast?
Wetpaint Entertainment teamed up with Viggle for a little drive down memory lane, and we had Viggle LIVE! users totally stumped! Before Paul started living life in the fast lane as the star of The Fast and the Furious franchise, the studio had several other stars in mind, including one very famous musician… or shall we say rapper?
When we asked Viggle users who nearly landed the part, only 26 percent of viewers answered correctly with Eminem. That’s right. According to IMDB, Slim Shady was once considered for the role of LAPD officer Brian O’Connor! But it’s probably for the best that things fell through; Eminem went on to make his big screen debut in 2002’s 8 Mile, and Paul Walker landed the role of a lifetime.
Surprisingly, a whooping 50 percent of Viggle LIVE! users thought Justin Timberlake was offered the role. Coming off his acting debut in 2000’s TV movie, Model Behavior, Justin seemed like a likely candidate. Plus, the N*SYNC member was trying to revamp his image at the time. But, alas, Justin wasn’t considered for the role, and that’s probably as good thing. He was too baby-faced to take on the part of Brian.
Meanwhile, actor-turned-singer-turned-actor Jared Leto also seemed like a plausible candidate, or so 24 percent of Viggle LIVE! users believed. Unfortunately, Jared wasn’t considered for the role, but we’d like to think Brian would have been a little too emotional with Jared at the helm. Paul Walker certainly added a bit of edge to a role that could have easily been green.
In the end, the right man was cast in the part. Not only did Paul Walker fit the extremely sexy bill, but he also had a passion for street racing and sports cars — a passion he would continue to enjoy until his untimely death at the age of 40 on November 30, 2013.
