Father Gives New Meaning to “Taco Tuesday” After Making One With His Wife’s Placenta

Recently, it was reported that there has been an increase in new mom’s eating their baby’s placenta in various forms in order to reap purported health and nutrition benefits. Now, it seems like dads want a piece too! A new father — and somewhat disturbingly devoted husband — took things a bit further and decided to cook his baby’s placenta in a taco.

According to The Guardian, Nick Baines made the request to his wife’s midwives after his child was successfully delivered via C-section. Nick claimed placenta was something he’d thought about for a while. “Being inquisitively omnivorous, I wanted to know how it would taste,” he says, and figured this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Dear God, let’s hope so...

The midwives were skeptical at first, wanting to know how Nick would prepare the dish, but ultimately, they handed over the organ (in a doggy bag no less). Nick researched ways to prepare what he described as the “clot-like, knotted mass of fibrous” (gag) — which included pizza and lasagna recipes — and ultimately opted to prepare it as a taco.

Intimidated at first by the size of the “incredibly versatile ingredient,” Nick found that once he cooked the organ, it no longer spooked him. In fact, he was actually enthusiastic to put it into a tortilla and chow down. After frying it up with a little garlic and paprika, he added some cilantro and got to work.

How was it, you ask? Nick said he found the flavor of the taco not bad at all. “The meat was rich, with a beef-like quality,” he said. It turns out that the taco was much better than the raw placenta smoothie he also made, which “tasted exactly like the delivery room had smelled.”

In fact, he likened the flavor to Texas BBQ, and wrote that it was much better than some of the other “cuts of offal” he’s ingested. Just, ew...
