It's a Fergalicious day: E! reports that Fergie and husband Josh Duhamel welcomed son Axl Jack, who tipped the scales at 7 lbs. 10 oz, today. This is their first child.
TMZ cites sources who say that the pop star and her actor hubby scheduled a C-section delivery to take place today, and Josh, star of Las Vegas and Safe Haven, was "super-chill" before the big moment, chatting nonchalantly with the hospital staff.
Fergie is now a card-carrying member of the celebrity C-section club. Victoria “Too Posh to Push” Beckham had four procedures — one for each child. The same goes for Tori Spelling’s four kids. Angelina Jolie also opted for the Cesarean method when giving birth to Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. The first time was in an African hospital. “I had a C-section and I found it fascinating,” said Angelina. “I didn't find it a sacrifice and I didn't find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do." Not everyone found the experience so special. Kate Winslet admitted she covered up the fact that she had an emergency C-section while giving birth to her first child, Mia. (Her son Joe was born naturally a few years later.) “I felt like a complete failure,” Kate said of her daughter’s birth. “My whole life, I’d been told I had great childbearing hips. There’s this thing amongst women in the world that if you can handle childbirth, you can handle anything.”
Now that the procedure is over, the "Glamourous" 38-year-old will stay at the same kind of VIP suite Kim Kardashian used for her recovery in June.
Just don't call the new mother by her birth name, Stacy Ann Ferguson. As we previously reported, she had it officially changed to Fergie Duhamel two weeks ago.
Update: Why the name Axl? As you might've guessed, "Fergie is a huge Guns 'N Roses fan," a source told Us Weekly, "one of her career highlights has been performing and recording with Slash — so Axl makes perfect sense." Maybe if Ferg and Josh had welcomed a girl she would've been Axl Rose II. But Axl Jack is rockin' name too. Congrats to the family!
