Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: Ana to Be Cast Before Christian? Aaron Taylor-Johnson Out
Fifty Shades of Grey has endured what feels like fifty years of casting speculation, and that was even before we had a director. Now that Sam Taylor-Johnson has been named the lady in charge of shaping the film adaptation, what will this mean for Christian and Anastasia?
Well, we can cross one name off the list — Sam’s 23-year-old husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
When Sam was named director, Aaron's name came up for Christian, but his publicist released a statement to USA Today: "Aaron is not doing 50 Shades of Grey.” According to Indiewire, Aaron "is going to be the supportive father by staying at home this fall to take care of the couple's two kids" while she shoots the movie. How 'bout this woman — she gets to marry a hot guy half her age and he's willing to stay home to take care of the kids while she directs sexy actors in a steamy movie. She must teach us her ways.
But anyway, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “Universal and Focus Features will likely first cast Anastasia Steele (with names like Felicity Jones and A Royal Affair's Alicia Vikander bandied about to play the innocent college student) before turning their attention to the male lead.”
THR also believes Fifty Shades may get premium VOD (video on demand) release. As they put it, “For all the women who were too embarrassed to read a hard copy of the book and opted for the e-book edition instead, a premium VOD offering could provide the ultimate private viewing experience — for a premium price.”
It’s more likely for the men who want to watch the movie but might be too embarrassed to go into the theater with the ladies. We’re on to you, fellas.
What do you think about the rumor of Ana being cast before Christian? Shouldn’t they cast both actors together, so they know they have the right chemistry? Which role is more important to “get right”?
