The movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey hasn’t even hit theaters yet (if it ever does) and already reports are flying that lead actress Dakota Johnson is struggling with her newfound fame.
“It’s been tough,” a source tells E! News of the 24-year-old’s recent spike in popularity. “Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press. When she first got the role, it was way too much for her.”
The source adds, Dakota is someone “everyone wants a piece of,” which is totally perfect seeing as her Fifty Shades character Anastasia Steele faces a similar issue with Christian Grey.
What likely has Dakota stressing out more is the sudden departure of her leading man. Over the weekend news broke actor Charlie Hunnam dropped out of 50 Shades, leaving a gaping, hunk-shaped hole for the lead of Christian.
E! News says Charlie may have left the role because of his own dislike of the spotlight. “More than anything he hates attention and being in Fifty Shades of Grey would force him to do lots of media,” explains an E! source. “That’s really not his thing. Charlie doesn’t want to be massively famous.”
Despite the reports Dakota is having similar second thoughts, she’s not technically an amateur when it comes to facing fame. She previously starred on the Fox comedy Ben and Kate and also happens to be the daughter of leading lady Melanie Griffith. Being raised amid the hubbub of Hollywood and starring in an S&M-heavy movie can’t be all that different, right?
