Behold the first poster for Fifty Shades of Grey, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
Mr. Grey will see you now (if he ever turns around) — but what do you think about seeing him (or not seeing too much of him)?
The movie isn’t arriving in theaters for over a year, so it makes sense for them to tease things out like this. We don’t get to see Christian’s face, just letting him look out to the Seattle skyline from his swanky office, and there’s no seeing Ana at all.
It’s a little Mad Men-esque — Don Draper likes this pose too — but you could argue it’s in keeping with the books.
Check out a long excerpt from the first Fifty Shades book here at Random House. When Ana first meets Christian at his office, she’s told, “Mr. Grey will see you now, Miss Steele.”
Here’s author E.L. James’s description of Christian’s office, from Ana’s perspective:
“His office is way too big for just one man. In front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, there’s a modern dark wood desk that six people could comfortably eat around. It matches the coffee table by the couch. Everything else is white—ceiling, floors, and walls, except for the wall by the door, where a mosaic of small paintings hang, thirty-six of them arranged in a square. They are exquisite—a series of mundane, forgotten objects painted in such precise detail they look like photographs. Displayed together, they are breathtaking.”
And here’s part of her take on the man himself: “So young—and attractive, very attractive. He’s tall, dressed in a fine gray suit, white shirt, and black tie with unruly dark copper-colored hair and intense, bright gray eyes that regard me shrewdly. It takes a moment for me to find my voice.”
Go ahead and find your own e-voice and share your thoughts on this poster. OK for a first tease or were you hoping for more?
